Change

Like I mentioned before, I've been thinking about adding "... and motherhood" to my blog name because it's such a big part of my life right now. Wait, scratch that, it’s not a big part of my life, it is my life now. So there, the name is changed.

I began to read my camera’s instruction manual since my “Picture & Stroller” class starts next Tuesday and I wanted to make sure I knew where everything was. However, when I came back from Yoga this afternoon I had a surprise waiting for me ... Kyra ate the manual!  Bad dog!

Macro

"Macro photography is close-up photography of usually very small subjects"

I can't believe I didn't know that...

So I started reading the instruction manual and one of the first things that they talk about is the "macro" setting. I didn't have much time to practice it since I had an appointment and received a surprise visit from my long-time friend Gen but I managed for one picture to come out clear. Yay me!

I will practice more as soon as we’ll be able to go back outside. It’s too cold for us to go out as it’s currently -20°c here. The joys of the Canadian winters!

So here's Emma chewing on the camera strap will I'm trying to figure out the macro settings on it.

Instruction Manual

Since I need to start somewhere I decided to start with reading the instruction manual of my current camera (Canon PowerShot SD1000). I know, you can’t believe I never read it right? So I went through the unpacked boxes piled in our spare room (unpacked from our move in September 2009) and found the camera’s original box. In the box there was like 6 instruction manuals (?), a CD and some wires (??). Who knew there were so many things in that box! So while Emma was happily chewing the pieces of her wooden puzzle next to me I thought about my plan for the day to go through the box’s content. But then I got a call from my brother Francis, needing a lift because my other brother Lucas had parked his car behind him and left to party downtown, leaving Francis stranded at home and late for work. One thing led to another, grocery shopping, a visit from Emma’s godmother, cleaning, Kyra vomiting on the couch, and I haven’t had time to go through the box. But hey at least I found the box! Maybe I should have named my blog “My journey through motherhood” ;)

Leap of faith

I love photography. Always did. I can spend hours looking at pictures. A few days ago I followed a link that brought me to Kelle Hampton’s blog (http://www.kellehampton.com/) and it inspired me so much that I decided to finally follow my dreams and learn photography. I don’t know if I’ll be any good but I’ll never know if I don’t give it a try. It’s never too late to follow your dreams right?
Talking about dreams, I've wanted to write a book for years. But because I kept changing my mind about the subject it hasn't happen yet. Then I thought, maybe I should start with a blog! But I could never choose a topic. So I decide to combine two of my dreams: writing and photography. I'll blog about my journey in photography!
I love taking pictures, looking at them, at the colors, the details, the shades, the expression on the subject’s face but I’m very much a point and shoot kind of photographer. So first things first, I’m taking a 4 day photography class with Emma, starting next week. I’m saying with Emma because this is a “bring-your-baby” workshop where you use your baby as your model.  In the meantime, I’m also going to raid the bookstore for good photography books and start looking into getting a better camera. Who knows, maybe I’ll be very good and this will turn out to be more than a hobby and a way for me to share my passion for photography with my friends and family and it might turn into something bigger.
Welcome to my journey, I hope you enjoy it!
