Playa Maroma

Playa Maroma is located 45 minutes south of Cancun, about 15 minutes before Playa del Carmen in the Mayan Riviera. In others words, it’s close to paradise. This was our fourth time in the Riviera Maya (including last time when we got married on the beach in Playa del Carmen!) and we chose Playa Maroma because it has the most beautiful beaches in the area.

It was Emma’s first time in Mexico and she LOVED it! She learned about white-powdered sand, the blue Caribbean sea, Mexican music and most importantly .... milkshakes!!

She also discovered what locals call “Tejon”. It’s a cross between a raccoon and an ant-eater. There were about a hundred of them living on the resort. She though they were dogs so whenever she saw one she would point and bark at them J

The weather was nice for the two first days, very warm and sunny but on the third day we saw the storm coming in.

The storm stayed until the end of our vacation. I have never seen so much rain (and I lived in Mexico 2 years and have been there on vacation many times). Usually, it’ll rain hard for an hour and then the sun comes back out and you can enjoy the rest of the day. That didn’t happen. Every day, we kept saying “tomorrow it’ll be sunny” ... we never saw the sun again. On the flip side, tropical storms are beautiful to watch and make for awesome pictures!

And really, you go on vacation (or at least, I do) to rest and enjoy the time as a family. Emma didn’t care about the rain, she had a fantastic time! I had a good time too, being in Mexico looking at the beach and the ocean (rain or not) is like recharging your soul. I love it.

Oooooo I almost forgot to mention, October 15th was our third wedding anniversary and since we got married 15 minutes away from where we were saying we took a trip to Playa del Carmen, even if it was raining, just to go visit the beach where we had our Mayan Wedding ceremony. Unfortunately, we got “politely” escorted from the resort as we were not guest (which was quite funny) but manage to sneak some pictures anyway ;)

We then took a stroll down the 5th avenue in Playa del Carmen, which is always fun to do and I couldn’t leave without taking one of my famous “picture with the monkey!”.
